AMD’s 3000 Series Ryzen Mobile Chips – Better Than Expected?

In late 2017, AMD released their Ryzen 2000 series mobile CPU’s although they sported CPU performance comparable to Intel 8th Gen mobile CPU’s and much better mobile performance, they were not well received by the public. A large reason is due to the lack of driver optimizations and the problem of too much power consumption which generates heat and reduces performance and battery life. Fast-forward to 2019, where AMD are releasing their 3000 series mobile CPU’s. The public has already expressed concern over their specs, which improve only marginally compared to the last generation (a very slight clock speed bump). However, I believe that this generation of CPU’s will be the one that brings AMD back into the mobile space. Due to the “new” 12nm process the CPU’s are based on, it’s a lot more optimized and efficient compared to the last generation. It’s likely that this generation will consume less power, thereby reducing heat and increasing performance. This fixes one of the major problems, which is the problem with too much heat. The second problem is also solved with AMD’s promise that they will release drivers for Ryzen Mobile that can be downloaded directly from the AMD website.

In conclusion, I think the Ryzen 3000 series mobile CPU’s will be much better than anyone else thinks – the point of this generation is to fix old problems, not upgrading the specs. Obviously, a spec bump is always appreciated, but with this new generation of mobile CPU’s coming, there will be little reason to not get it in anyone’s next laptop.
