The new Honor 20 Pro that was greatly hyped by the media revealed itself to be quite a letdown. Not only was it announced within a day of the Huawei Ban, it also has one startling downside.
The Honor 20 Pro is starts at 600 Euros. It features a punch-hole 32 mp front facing camera, a 6.26″ 1080p screen, a 4000 mAh battery, Kirin 980, and a sexy quad-camera setup featuring a 48 mp main shooter, a 16 mp ultrawide camera, an 8 mp telephoto lens, and an interesting new addition, a dedicated 2 mp macro camera. However, the one thing that really hinders this phone is the LCD panel, which could be a dealbreaker for many people.
Nowadays, you can get an OLED display on phones such as the Galaxy A50 and the Mi 9 SE, both phones that are priced well under $400. Not only is the Honor 20 Pro much more expensive, it is also particularly weak to the lack of OLED technology. Punch-hole cameras with an LCD display often experience distortion of colors around the punch-hole. Although this is not very noticeable, it still poses more of an effect than phones with conventional notches.
It wouldn’t cost Honor much to implement an OLED screen on the Honor 20 Pro, or any phones in the Honor 20 Series. In fact, I actually had to read the spec sheet twice to make sure I wasn’t reading the display part wrong. Flagship phones deserve flagship specs and features, and in 2019, an LCD display just really isn’t cutting it. I implore Honor to learn from this and start using OLED panels in future devices.
